USAID Tulonge Afya
Completed Project
The USAID Tulonge Afya project focused on addressing key social and cultural norms, as well as specific needs related to Social Behavior Change (SBC). By identifying the underlying drivers of health-related behaviors, the project effectively promoted positive changes across communities. It leveraged Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) alongside other mutually reinforcing approaches to achieve significant health improvements.
The project achieved results across three primary pillars:
Strengthened Community Support for Healthy Behaviors
The project built a strong foundation of community support that encouraged and sustained healthy behaviors. This included engaging community leaders, families, and social networks to create a supportive environment where healthy practices were valued and promoted.
Improved Ability of Individuals to Practice Healthy Behaviors
By providing education, resources, and tools, the project empowered individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to adopt and maintain healthy behaviors. This involved addressing barriers to behavior change and facilitating access to necessary health services and information.
Improved Systems for Coordination and Implementation of SBCC Interventions
The project enhanced the systems and mechanisms that supported the effective coordination and implementation of SBCC interventions. This included strengthening partnerships, improving communication strategies, and ensuring that interventions were well-coordinated and aligned with the community's overall health goals.
