Creating a safe and inclusive learning environment for students

USAID Jifunze Uelewe

Completed Project
Jifunze Uelewe is a 4.5-year United States Agency for International Development (USAID)/Tanzania activity. The aim of the Activity is to sustainably improve literacy and numeracy skills for all pre-primary through Standard 4 pupils in the targeted regions of Iringa, Morogoro, Mtwara, Ruvuma, and Zanzibar. The objective behind the Activity is to ensure safe and inclusive (or welcoming and supportive) learning environments for all children by 2025. The Activity will also build the capacity of teachers, Head Teachers (HTs), and administrators, as well as community-based stakeholders who have an interest in or those play a role in supporting government pre-primary and primary schools in regions previously named. Jifunze Uelewe builds on the successes of the USAID’s Tusome Pamoja Program and USAID’s Hesabu na Elimu Jumuishi Activity by continuing to support early grade education implemented in the same regions. Jifunze Uelewe activities will be structured under the following three main outcomes: • Outcome 1: Improved literacy, numeracy, and social–emotional instruction by teachers • Outcome 2: Strengthened capacity of local and regional governments to sustain improved learning outcomes • Outcome 3: Increased community support for safe and inclusive learning environments (in and outside of the school). IDYDC was sub-grantee in implementing Outcome 3 in Iringa region and four councils in Morogoro
