Project Objective: To improve the lives of orphaned and vulnerable children in Tanzania by providing comprehensive support in the areas of health, nutrition, education, protection, and economic empowerment.
From July 2023 to Sept 2024, IDYDC rescued 270 CLWS (206 males, and 64 females) aged 7-17 and provided them with short-term shelter and different sessions like one-to-one sessions, grouped counseling, life skills session, and Education through COBET classes. Among 270 CLWS who were rescued were from the street and others were from the social welfare office. Out of 270 CLWS who were rescued at the Upendo rehabilitation center 217 CLWS were re-unified with their respective families(41 females, 176 males).
IDYDC Contribution: IDYDC played a pivotal role in the Upendo center, focusing on the health, nutrition, education, protection and economic empowerment of youth. The organization contributions included:
· Access to HIV/AIDs services: IDYDC center workers used different methodologies like sports and games in providing life skills session and building rapport in counseling children including one-to-one sessions, group discussion, and therapy. These activities aim on prepairing children for unification.
· Provision of Safe space/rescue center to CLWS: IDYDC rescue 270 CLWS and provide them with short-term shelter.
· Vocational Training: IDYDC provided vocational training programs in various trades and skills, equipping
youth with practical expertise and increasing their employability.
· Entrepreneurship Education: IDYDC offered training in business planning, marketing, and financial management, empowering young people to start their own businesses and become self-sufficient
· Life Skills Development: IDYDC equipped young people with essential life skills such as communication, problem-solving, and teamwork, which are crucial for success in both personal and professional life.
· Seed Money and Infrastructure: To support youth-led enterprises, IDYDC provided seed money and infrastructure grants to help beneficiaries start and grow their own businesses.
· Microcredit Funding: IDYDC microcredit program offered start-up grants to young entrepreneurs, providing them with the financial resources needed to launch their ventures.
· Mentorship and Support: IDYDC provided mentorship and ongoing support to youth beneficiaries, helping them navigate the challenges of entrepreneurship and business management.
