Going Beyond

The Going Beyond – Partnering for a Youth-Led Future project is a collaboration between Digital Opportunity Trust (DOT) and the Mastercard Foundation that aims to scale DOT’s evidence-based, peer-to-peer model and will be executed in four African countries – Côte d’Ivoire, Malawi, Zambia, and Tanzania. Over five years, Going Beyond will empower over 300,000 youths, particularly young women, in Africa to lead transformational change. The project aims to progressively transfer the delivery and ownership of DOT’s evidence-based, youth-led programming, and equip youth as leaders of the future, drive economic growth, and contribute to sustainable development in their communities. USAID Tulonge Afya

The USAID Tulonge Afya project focused on addressing key social and cultural norms, as well as specific needs related to Social Behavior Change (SBC). By identifying the underlying drivers of health-related behaviors, the project effectively promoted positive changes across communities. It leveraged Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) alongside other mutually reinforcing approaches to achieve significant health improvements. The project achieved results across three primary pillars: Strengthened Community Support for Healthy Behaviors The project built a strong foundation of community support that encouraged and sustained healthy behaviors. This included engaging community leaders, families, and social networks to create a supportive environment where healthy practices were valued and promoted. Improved Ability of Individuals to Practice Healthy Behaviors By providing education, resources, and tools, the project empowered individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to adopt and maintain healthy behaviors. This involved addressing barriers to behavior change and facilitating access to necessary health services and information. Improved Systems for Coordination and Implementation of SBCC Interventions The project enhanced the systems and mechanisms that supported the effective coordination and implementation of SBCC interventions. This included strengthening partnerships, improving communication strategies, and ensuring that interventions were well-coordinated and aligned with the community's overall health goals.

USAID Jifunze Uelewe

Jifunze Uelewe is a 4.5-year United States Agency for International Development (USAID)/Tanzania activity. The aim of the Activity is to sustainably improve literacy and numeracy skills for all pre-primary through Standard 4 pupils in the targeted regions of Iringa, Morogoro, Mtwara, Ruvuma, and Zanzibar. The Activity will also build the capacity of teachers, Head Teachers (HTs), and administrators, as well as community-based stakeholders who have an interest in or those play a role in supporting government pre-primary and primary schools in regions previously named. Jifunze Uelewe builds on the successes of the USAID’s Tusome Pamoja Program and USAID’s Hesabu na Elimu Jumuishi Activity by continuing to support early grade education implemented in the same regions. Jifunze Uelewe activities will be structured under the following three main outcomes: • Outcome 1: Improved literacy, numeracy, and social–emotional instruction by teachers • Outcome 2: Strengthened capacity of local and regional governments to sustain improved learning outcomes • Outcome 3: Increased community support for safe and inclusive learning environments (in and outside of the school).
