Project Objective: To increase access to health services at the community level by aligning community-related activities

USAID Boresha Afya – Southern Zone is a comprehensive five-year initiative, spanning from October 1, 2016, to September 30, 2021, generously funded by USAID (United States Agency for International Development). The primary objective of this project is to significantly enhance access to high-quality, comprehensive, and integrated health services throughout Tanzania. This initiative targets key health areas, including HIV/AIDS, maternal health, neonatal care, child health, reproductive health, malaria prevention, and nutrition outcomes. Geographically, USAID Boresha Afya – Southern Zone focuses on regions in Tanzania burdened with high disease prevalence, namely Iringa, Njombe, Morogoro, Lindi, Mtwara, and Ruvuma (specifically for malaria interventions). Operating across 43 local councils within these regions, the project is strategically positioned to address critical health challenges at the community level. At its core, USAID Boresha Afya – Southern Zone envisions establishing a dynamic and integrated platform for health service delivery. This platform emphasizes strong collaboration among government bodies, health facilities, and local communities. By fostering partnerships and leveraging resources effectively, the project aims to improve the accessibility, quality, and integration of health services. Special attention is dedicated to advancing maternal, neonatal, and child health outcomes, alongside reproductive health services and nutritional support. Notably, the project places a particular emphasis on enhancing health services for women and youth, recognizing their unique health needs and vulnerabilities within the community.
